Boise Airport is
a self-sustained enterprise fund department of the City of Boise.
There are 120 Boise Airport employees and 31 police officers
assigned to the airport from the Boise Police Department.
As an enterprise fund for the City of Boise, no local tax
funding contributes to the airport. Revenues are generated by fees
and charges as well as federal grant funding. Capital development
must be paid for through these funds as well.
In FY 2009, Boise Airport tallied $16.8 million in operating
expenses, 32% of that coming from employee wages and benefits. In
the same year, the Airport collected $21.2 million in revenues, 31
percent coming from parking fees.
Boise Airport is a non-profit entity and all revenues above
expenses are reinvested into the city's aviation operations.
Boise Airport is also the beneficiary of FAA grants. Since 1952
those grants have totaled more than $125 million. This money has
gone toward projects such as runway and terminal improvements, land
acquisition, noise abatement, security enhancements, baggage system
upgrades, fire equipment and basic infrastructure.
