Boise Airport Expects Busy Holiday Travel Season, Opens Additional Parking

Boise, Idaho – Thanksgiving is the busiest holiday travel week of the year, and this year airport officials are expecting a record number of passengers.

“Our 2017 passenger statistics are up 8% compared to this time in 2016. If we continue on this trend, we’ll set a record for the most passengers to pass through the Boise Airport in one year,” said Rebecca Hupp, Boise Airport Director. “We expect the airport to be busy throughout the holiday season.”

To account for peak travel periods, the Boise Airport will open their Economy Parking Lot midweek, Tuesday – Thursday, beginning at 7:00 a.m. each day (with the exception of Thanksgiving Day). This should alleviate high demand periods, however airport officials will monitor parking availability and expand this time period if necessary. These operations will be available through December 21, 2017. The latest parking information is available online at https://www.iflyboise.com/parking-transportation/parking-rates/.

The economy lot is located at Victory Road and Orchard Street and will have a free shuttle for passengers. The shuttle runs every day for returning passengers.

On average 9,000 passengers travel through the Boise Airport each day, that number is expected to be closer to 12,000 during the Thanksgiving holiday. The busiest travel days will be Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the Sunday after the holiday.

As always the Boise Airport encourages travelers to allow a little extra time when traveling during this peak holiday season, arriving two hours before their scheduled departure.

“Flying in and out of Boise should be an enjoyable experience, not a stressful one. We want passengers to take a little extra time and experience our award winning concession programs, digital library, or large collection of public art,” said Hupp.

The Boise Airport has a few extra tips to ensure your travel goes smoothly.

  • Visit www.tsa.gov to learn what items are restricted. Then double check your luggage, both carry on and checked, to make sure none of these items were packed.
  • Arrive two hours before your departure time.
  • Visit your airlines website to check flight status before heading to the airport.
  • If you’re picking up passengers, please utilize the short term parking lot or cell phone waiting lot if you arrive early. The curb is for active loading and unloading only. Waiting or parking on the curb is a violation of city code and could result in a fine.

Most importantly, delays can happen, please remember to be patient when traveling. The Boise Airport wishes everyone a happy holiday season and enjoyable travel.
